If you’re curious why Harry considers this his favorite dessert, there’s only one way to find out – you’ll have to make it for yourself. (Sorry, there are no house elves to make it happen!). Here’s a relatively easy treacle tart recipe.
Ingredients:
Crust:
2½ cups Flour
1 T Sugar
1 cup Butter, diced
⅓ cup Cold Water
Filling:
1 cup Golden Syrup
1 cup Fresh White Breadcrumbs
1 Egg
1 t Vanilla Extract
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 2 tart pans and set aside. In a bowl combine the flour, sugar, and butter using two forks or a pastry cutter. The mixture should resemble coarse sand. Add the cold water, one tbsp at a time, mixing after each addition. Once the mixture forms big clumps and sticks together when pressed it’s done. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Flour a surface and with the help of a rolling pin, roll out the pie crust dough. Cut into 2 pieces and transfer one to the prepared tart pan. Prepare the filling: In a small saucepan over medium heat cook the golden syrup until it melted and just about to begin simmering. Add the breadcrumbs and the vanilla and stir to combine. Remove from heat and once it cools down, beat in the egg. Pour into the tart tin. Cut the remaining pie dough into strips and weave over the pie. Brush with egg and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until done.
