Total time: | 1 hour 30 minutes |
Servings: | 1 batch of honey |
Cuisine: | weed infused |
Ingredients:
7 grams cannabis (use more or less depending on desired potency)
250 ml honey
Instructions:
Decarboxylate the cannabis to activate the THC & CBD. Spread it evenly on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and cover with foil. Place into oven preheated to 240°F (115°C) for 30-40 minutes. For a more in depth decarboxylation guide, click here.
Combine the honey and ground decarboxylated cannabis in a saucepan or double boiler.
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer on a low heat and let it infuse for at least 1 hour (up to 6 hours). Do not let it boil – high heat can damage the cannabinoids, and destroy the enzymes in the honey.
Once infused, take the cannabis honey off the heat and allow to cool down. When cool, pour the mixture through a funnel lined with cheesecloth to strain the cannabis material out of the infused honey.
Store in a cool dark area like a cupboard or refrigerate. Best used within 1-2 months.
Notes:
Instead of directly combining the honey and cannabis, you can make a cannabis “teabag” out of cheese cloth. Let that simmer in with the honey then simply remove it at the end. Saves you straining out the weed from the honey.
Use more or less cannabis in this recipe to achieve your desired potency.
Always start with a small amount when testing the potency of your edibles.
Will cannabis honey get you high?
Possibly. The “high” from cannabis comes from the THC in it. If you used cannabis which contains THC then there is a good chance your cannahoney will get you high. How “high” you will get depends on the quality and quantity of the cannabis you used. To make cannabis honey that does not get you high, make sure you use a CBD dominant cannabis strain with less than 1% THC.
Remember to always start with a small amount when testing your edibles potency.
How to make CBD honey:
If you want to make CBD honey that contains no THC, do not use regular cannabis for this recipe. Regular cannabis contains THC that can make you feel “high” when consumed. In most locations, you can purchase a “THC-free” weed alternative called CBD hemp flower buds. CBD hemp flower buds contain less than 0.2% THC and can be purchased legally in certain places in the US, EU, and UK. Check your local laws before attempting to purchase any.
To make CBD honey, simply switch the cannabis in this recipe with CBD hemp flower buds.
