Use this homemade apple pie spice to make your own mix from scratch using spices in your pantry. Use spices from your spice cupboard to create this easy homemade apple pie spice recipe. You just need cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Cardamom is optional. You will often see apple pie spice listed as an ingredient on recipes for apple pies and crisps. I know you have heard of pumpkin pie spice, but you may be asking yourself “What’s apple pie spice?” And you wouldn’t be alone! Apple pie spice is just a mix of several spices that are commonly included in homemade apple pie recipes. In fact, they are included so frequently, that spice manufacturers started bottling them together. Apple pie spice is a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice and occasionally cardamon.
Ingredients:
¼ cup ground cinnamon
2 t ground nutmeg
2 t ground ginger
2 t ground allspice
2 t ground cardamom
Instructions:
Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, allspice, and cardamon to a small bowl. Mix well. Use as called for in recipes.
Store the spice mix in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
